Just When I Thought Things Were Perfect
Why is it than right when things start going your way and you feel like all the stars have aligned and life is perfect, all of a sudden there is a shift. All it takes is one little piece of the puzzle to fall out of place and you feel like you are tumbling through the open abyss. Just yesterday I was bearing my testimony in sacrament about how much Brant and I have been blessed and how after many prayers and trials things were working out perfectly. Then today I received a phone call which didn't necessarily put a stop to our plans, but it sure did put a big speed bump along our journey. We're back not knowing what we should do. What is the right decision for us to make. Is what happened today a sign that we were moving in the wrong direction and that we need to turn around? Or is it merely a test to see how much faith we have in the Lord and the answer that we received. Or at least we thought we received. Or is it, as Brant thinks, really a blessing and it's going to be better for us in the end? I just don't know. I know life isn't perfect. I know there are trials that we all have to go through and that's what life is about. Small tests that make us stronger and test our faith in the Savior. I know that Brant and I have been blessed this past week in many things. And I'm sure things will work out for the best. But come on! We JUST had one trial of our faith this past week, can't we get at least a full week in before the next one comes along? But what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? As for now, I'm sure hoping this doesn't kill me - or my spirit. And I sure hope I can get some sleep tonight.

Confession
I have a confession to make. I have been married for almost 10 months and I have yet to change my last name to Carpenter on my driver's license. To be fair, I did get my social security number changed to my new name. And my checks. And 2 of my credit/debit cards. But the big one - the driver's license - still says Kristy Erickson.
My goal is to get this changed before the end of the year.
Then I'll think about making the change on my other two credit cards. (Yes I have 4 credit cards that I use regularly...don't judge.)

Random Thoughts
I'm alone in my office today (right now at least), so I'm doing the only logical thing: blogging. So I decided to do another random thoughts post. Mainly because I don't have the energy to put together a cute post with photos on my other blog. So here you go...what's on my mind right now:
~ Have you ever been so tired you feel like crying? Well that's me today. I got around 8 hours of sleep so there is really no reason for this, except the little monster growing inside me I guess.
~ Maybe I should stop referring to my baby as a monster. Nah...the baby is part Brant. It's going to be a monster most of it's life.
~ I'm hoping we're having a little boy. It might be because Brant always talks about it being a boy.
~ I love Halloween! I wish I were living at my own place so I could feel like I could decorate my house/apartment cute for the holiday. But for some reason, I feel like that will need to wait until next yer.
~ I'm excited to move out of my parents' house. As nice as it is to be living rent free, it'll be great to have our own space.
~ My sister is due with her 3rd baby 3 weeks before me and I think my tummy is already as big (or bigger) than hers. That's going to be hard to handle for the next 6 months.
~ I think I'm getting a cold. I feel kind of crappy today. Maybe that's playing into the fact that I'm so tired.
~ I might go home early today.
~ Our laundry room is full of clothes to be washed. I wish the clothes would magically wash themselves.
~ I don't understand people who don't pay their bills. Or will only pay a part of their bills. I've been dealing with a lady like that all morning today. It's put me in a foul mood.
~ I painted my nails last night and they are already chipped BADLY. I should have done a topcoat I guess.
~ We carved pumpkins last night. Before I carved mine it weighed around 35 lbs (not quite sure...the scale only went that high). After it was carved, it weighed around 30 pounds. Yeah...it was a thick one with not too much guts!
~ The longer I live here, the less I want to move away. I have good friends here that I love. It'd be really hard to leave that.
~ I wish I knew if we were having a boy or a girl. Can I really wait 3 1/2 more weeks?!?!
~ I'm currently listening to a mix of Matt Nathanson, Taylor Swift (her new album), Fun. (new album), and Mumford & Sons (new album). It's a random mix, but I'm enjoying it.
~ The other day Brant came to my work. When I first saw him I thought "dang, that guy is hot." Then I realized it was my hubby. It made me smile that he still takes my breath away even when I don't realize it's him.
~ I'm a bit obsessed with Zupas. I go there more than I should admit. It's so good though! And it's close to my work (kind of).
~ I should probably do some work now. Then maybe call my boss and tell him I'm going home to sleep.
Until next time!

A New Blog
I'm not sure if there are really any readers of my blog out there, but I wanted to let you all (or the one person still reading this) know that I am starting a new blog. If you would like to follow the lives of the Carpenters, then either leave a comment with your email address, facebook message me your email address, text me your email address, or get me your email address some other way. I might still use this blog for my random thoughts, but the new one will be more pictures and fun things we are doing.

Sweden
Brant and I went to Sweden for a week to visit my parents while they are on their mission. Our trip started at 9:30 pm on Aug. 6. We flew to New York (red-eye) and got in at 7:45 am. We checked in to our next flight and then headed in to the city for breakfast at one of my favorite places to eat breakfast/brunch... Sarabeth's!
On the way...Brant left his phone in the cab. After a million calls to his phone, the cabbie finally called back and said he'd drive back and return Brant's phone. We were both excited to get it back!
The plan was to do a little site seeing of the city during our 11 hour layover, but we were too tired (and grumpy). So we headed back to the airport to try and get a little nap in. It was a headache, but I will spare you all the details. We didn't get much of a nap in, but we boarded our plane to Sweden at 5:00 pm (NY time). Again, we flew all night and arrived in Sweden at 8:00 am (Sweden time - 12 midnight UT time). From there we got on a bus to the train station to meet my parents.
Once we met up with my parents we hit the road running. Literally. We only had a day in Stockholm so we packed in as much as we could. Here are some pictures from our day in Stockholm:
My parents walking under the arch to enter the old city.
Vikings!
The Royal Cathedral. Royals still attend church, have baptisms, and get married in this building
Stairs to the pulpit
Where the Royals sit
Some saint slaying a dragon. Good vs. Evil
The pulpit
The Old City. This is where we ate lunch.
The Royal Palace
The Vasa. This is a ship that sank before it could sail out of the harbor. Read about it here. It's pretty cool!
What the back would have looked like:
After falling asleep while walking around Stockholm, we boarded a train for our 3.5 hour ride to my parents' home in Vaxjo (pronounced vehkshua).
In Vaxjo, we sure did a LOT! We went to a glass blowing place. 2 actually. At the first one, we watched two girls make a glass blown vase. At the second place (Costa Boda - a famous glass/crystal outlet), we saw some AMAZING blown glass pieces and my mom bought us a cute orange candy dish!
We went to a moose park. That's right...MOOSE! Apparently moose hunting is a BIG sport in Sweden. Throughout the country you can see stands for the moose hunts. This moose park has fenced off areas where you can see moose up close and personal. And let me tell you...we were UP CLOSE!
There were chickens at the moose park
And goats
On one of the moose hunting stands
I told you we got close...
We ate godies (Swedish gummy & chocolate candies). One of the treats the Swedes love is this salted black licorice. Some of it isn't too bad, but some pieces are COVERED in salt. Brant loved the black licorice without the salt, but the salted kind was a bit strong...
One of the missionaries' favorite thing to eat in Vaxjo is Kebab (kay-bob). It is a pizza with kebab meat (the stuff you find in Greek food...YUM!), cheese, french fries, and a fry sauce. It might not sound (or look) very appetizing, but it was DELICIOUS!! We loved it!
We had a picnic and a BBQ next to two lakes. Sweden is covered in lakes. There are more than 50 lakes in my parents' small area alone!!
The water in Sweden in BLACK! It's very clean water, but has a high concentration of iron which leaves it a black/brown color.
Skipping rocks
We saw a super old church where I actually rang the bell in the tower. My parents were a little upset, but I thought it was cool! Brant was jealous :)
The door dates back to the time of the Vikings.
We went to Kalmar to see the castle there.
We got to pretend we were jousting.
The Queen's bed.
The King's room.
He had a hidden escape route. When the door is closed you cannot tell there is anything there but a wall.
The King's waiting room.
The church
The castle was built to protect Sweden from the Danish.
Brant ran into this post while he was looking at a giant anchor (see the next picture)
The cemetery next to the castle.
Then we went to the island across the sea from Kalmar, Oland, to have a picnic, see Borgholms Slott (an old castle), and the Royal Family's summer home. And my parents also took us on this awesome dirt road surrounded by trees.
A field full of poppies and daisies.
The first turnstile. (not really...but it was a surprise to see one at the old castle)
This castle was once used as a stable for livestock and later as a dump.
The entrance to the Royal summer home. We didn't go in to see the grounds.
A random ram we found by the Royal summer home.
Eating Magnums!
We toured the city of Vaxjo for one day. We saw Vaxjo Lake, shopped on the shopping street (no cars allowed), toured the Vaxjo Cathedral, sang in the echo water tower, and another run-down castle.
Inside the cathedral
The awesome candle tree. It depicted Adam and Eve.
It looked like the Tree of Life
Viking ruins could be found throughout Sweden. This is one behind the cathedral.
The domkyrka (pronounced dom sheerka). Also known as the cathedral.
Vaxjo Lake
Teleborg Castle. The prince had this built for his new bride as a wedding gift. She didn't like it so it was sold and turned into a hotel. She must have been crazy to not love this castle. It overlooks a beautiful lake and it so awesome!
Exploring and old castle that is now a ruin (I don't remember the name of this castle).
The old banquet hall at the castle.
The last day we were there we visited a couple in my parents' branch where we had lunch and were able to take their rowboat out on the lake across from their house.
We also went swimming in the lake. It was quite cold, but still fun!
