Before I start getting really busy at work today I just wanted to quickly write about my morning. But a little background first: on Tuesday I woke up pretty sick with a fever and a nasty cough. My roommates were so great to me and one of them bought me some cough syrup that she said worked wonders for her when she was sick with the same thing (which was just last week). So I've been taking this cough syrup for the past couple of days. Well...if there is one thing that I have learned about myself over the past year it's that cold medicines do not sit well with me. I get pretty loopy. So I told myself yesterday that I wouldn't take any of the cough syrup last night so that I could actually be somewhat normal at work, but then I started having cough attacks and I caved in. Anyway - long story short...I'm totally out of it today. How I was able to make it to the work this morning is a miracle. Thank goodness for autopilot.
Well...as I was walking in the subway station I was feeling as if I were in a dream. I tried to make myself move faster to match the pace of all the other New Yorkers, but my body would not cooperate. I kind of felt like I was floating. And then I heard my favorite little blue grass band playing this fast paced song. All of a sudden there were a ton of people dressed all in black headed straight towards me moving rather quickly. So there I was - in a cough syrup induced state - slowly floating upstream in a sea of oncoming, fast paced New Yorkers - and don't forget that background music. It was just like a movie. I actually laughed out loud as I came upon this realization. I was still chuckling to myself as I floated into work and sat down at my computer. That is why I had to share this little story with you all.
I must apologize if this little story doesn't make any sense. Three days of being on cough syrup is really getting to me. My superiors at work will hopefully see how worthless I am today and send me home :). Hey - we can always dream!

New Way of Life
Many of you may know that I often go through phases of trying to live a healthy lifestyle - many not lasting quite long enough to even count as phases, but that's another issue that I'll tackle another day. Well, I have just come across my next phase of living. (I'm not going to tell you yet what that new way of life is, so that I can build up the suspense.)
Last night, as I was wandering the streets of New York talking to my mom, I stumbled across Barnes and Noble (which is not surprising at all considering it is almost as common as Starbucks - which, ironically enough, they have inside B&N). Anyway...as I was wondering through the mountains of books I found one that my friend Mikey had read which she said was pretty good. I knew it was a weight-loss/health book written in a non-traditional way, but what it had in store for me far exceeded my expectations.
As I first started reading the book I was thinking that it was just like all the others I had read on weight loss: eating healthy meals (including grains and fruit - aka Atkins diet doesn't really work) + exercising = losing weight and living healthy. What I didn't know was how extreme they would take the eating healthy. And this is where my new way of life comes into play.
The authors started talking about all the nasty things that are found in dairy, beef, pork, and even chicken. And they had quite a few nasty words to say about the government organizations which control meat and dairy farms. Needless to say the book was pretty graphic so I will spare the details of what I read. Basically it convinced me (for the time being at least) that vegan was the way to go. So there you are - my new way of life: Kristy's going vegan.
I can already hear the gasps and laughter as my friends and family are all thinking "but how can you give up steak, chicken, fish, milk (including cereal because you can't have cereal w/o milk), cheese, ice cream, and basically everything good in this life." I'm actually wondering the same thing to be quite honest. But I have decided to give it a try. And hopefully, now that I have publicized my goal for the whole world to see, I can stick with it and see if I can tell a difference in how I feel.
I'll keep you all posted on how well this new lifestyle goes for me. Don't be too surprised if my next entry is all about how wonderful animal products are and how I can't live without them! Haha! Until then...go fruits, vegetables, and tofu!
p.s. Mom don't worry - there are quite a few good vegan restaurants that I know of in NY and I'll discover many more before the end of April :)

Harlem Nights and Greenwich Days
A wonderful thing about NY is that you can be in the same city but experience completely different things every day. Last night my friend, Sara, and I decided to have a new
adventure and experience the night life of Harlem. And what else would you do on a Friday night in Harlem except eat soul food and be entertained by live jazz music. And can I say if there is anywhere outside of the South that knows how to do soul food it's Harlem. WOW! My honey deep fried chicken, mac and cheese, an buttered corn were amazing!! And one of the best parts was the amazing corn bread they brought out as we sat down. If only I could eat like that every day and not weigh 300 lbs.
So after an amazing dinner, Sara and I headed out to listen to
some live jazz music. We stopped by the Apollo - just to check it out since it was closed and then it was off to Mo Bay's to listen to some live jazz. We had a few minutes to kill before the music was going to start so we decided we'd look into a couple of other places that supposedly had jazz music as well. However, the places we tried failed to come through, so back to Mo Bay's we went. Unfortunately, we were now a little late and there was no room for us. So we decided to end our Harlem night early and went back to Sara's place to watch Psych (man I love that show).
But as I was saying at the beginning, you can experience one thing one day and something completely different the next. Today I ventured down to Greenwich Village to get my hair cut.
I'm sure many of you have heard about Nick Arrojo - the amazing hair stylist on What Not to Wear. Well, his studio is where I got my hair cut. I was a little early so I wondered around that area and I fell in love! It's such a fun area of the city! I saw some really cute restaurants I want to try...namely because of their name: Once Upon a Tart.
Anyway...I decided to do something a little drastic with my hair (which won't s
urprise any of you). I'm still trying to get used to it...but I love it. The Arrojo Salon is amazing! And they treated me like a queen - even though I did just go with the junior stylist. But I have to say that I got to see Nick!!! He was cutting some woman's hair right across from me so I got to see the master at work. Maybe one of these days after I marry someone filthy rich I'll be able to afford a hair cut from him ($500...yikes!!!).
Well...tonight I'm off to Bronxville to watch one a play my friend is in. Once again...gotta love NY and all the fun and crazy things I get to do here.

About Me
Hey everyone! For so long I have been anti-blog, but lately I have seen the light and so I decided to start my very own blog. However, I'm giving fair warning that it might not be updated all that often. You will understand after I update you on what I am doing with my life.
I am currently living in NYC and working for PricewaterhouseCoopers (one of the big 4 accounting firms). We are heading into tax season and that's why I might not be updating this blog all that often. But the workload hasn't gotten too heavy yet so I'm trying to do all I can before starting to work crazy long hours. I am living in an awesome apartment on the Upper East Side of Manhattan (for those not familiar with NY I live east of Central Park). I love my place - I have my own bedroom and a washer and dryer in the apartment (which is basically unheard of in the city)!!! I live with three other girls who are all amazing!!
As it is NYC there are lots of things that we do for fun around here. Some of my favorite things to do in the city are the obvious: shopping, going to Broadway shows, seeing the sights, and taking random road trips to Boston and Philly (ok...so maybe I haven't done that last one yet, but I have trips planned for the spring and I can't wait!) One great thing about being in NY is that I am so close to really cool places!! And just the fact that I get to walk down the streets of NY everyday is pretty amazing to me still.
Well...that's basically my life right now! I'll truly try to keep this thing up to date but no guarantees.
